It was all too much. The emotions. The hurt. The loneliness. The hates online. Her family pressure. Everything was proving to get the best of y/n.

Y/n rocked herself slowly as she sat on the floor of her bathroom, her beautiful face stained with hours of crying, eyes bloodshot.

Usually, her anxiety was not that bad. She always had Zhan by her side whenever she felt on edge. He comforted her, told her that no matter whatever happens, he will always stay by her side till the very end. But now he wasn't here. Gone for over three months now to work on an upcoming drama. He knew how Y/n could get and called her whenever he had a minute to spare out of his tight-packed routine.

Y/n was greatful to the heavens above to have Zhan by her side. However, her past experiences stops her from believing that he'd never leave her behind. Her brain always telling her that all the people around her, even complete strangers, despised her, hated her, more so Zhan. It kept telling her that Zhan only stayed out of pity.

"He doesn't love you. Who you think will love you? Be greatful to him that he stayed with you this long. You deserve none of the affection he gives you."

"No," Y/n said. "It's not true. What you say."

"Oh? We both know he'll leave you sooner or later."

"No. Zhan loves me for me. He'll never leave me."

"It's a lie and you know it," the voice inside her head taunted her.

"He'll never leave me. He'll never leave me. He'll never leave me. HE'LL NEVER LEAVE ME!" Y/n screamed loudly as she grabbed her head in anguish trying to fight the voice that kept on telling her otherwise.

"Y/N!"

Zhan stood at the door of the bathroom, eyes glossed over as he watched the woman he loved so dearly battling herself.

In a second, he ran over to the girl, pulling her in his embrace. Zhan stroked her hair slowly as Y/n cried on the crook of his neck, wetting Zhan's t-shirt. He didn't care through. All he cared was the woman in his hold. He held her so tightly yet so carefully and gently as if a strong hold will break her. It might.

He kept comforting her, whispering sweet nothings in her ear. His own eyes pricked woth tears. He should've paid more attention attention her, he told himself. Although there was no one to be blamed.

When Y/n finally calmed down, she looked at Zhan who was silent but those black, almond eyes asked all the questions.

"Zhan. Don't leave me ok? Never," She said, smiling faintly.

Zhan moved some few strands of hair out of her face, smiling softly. "Of course, love. I could never leave you. Not even in a million years," He whispered, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead.

Y/n smiled slowly, the tiredness taking over her body as she fell asleep in Zhan's hold.

Xiao carefully carried her to their bed, tucking her in. He softly caressed her face, a sad smile on his lips.

"I love you too much to leave you, Y/n."

Took me ages to find but Wei Wuxian's hair in his "Xie Yuan" disguise is very directly inspired by Xiao Zhan's hairstyle in Battle Through the Heavens:

In Memory; In Truth snippet from Chapter Five:

Years of experience—and it being earlier than he usually wakes—has Lan Zhan making a subtle hand sigil under the blankets and sending Bichen soaring straight for the intruder. The intruder holds up a single finger, twirls it, and waves it once in Lan Zhan's direction. Controlled by an unseen force, Bichen moves in imitation, coming to a stop before spinning around and soaring back into its sheath. “Calm down; it's just me,” the intruder says. Lan Zhan sits up. “Zhenjun?” “Yeah. I'm looking for my scrolls, do you have them?” Lan Zhan nods, climbing out of bed. The god… looks different. Very much so. His face is a bit more angular, his clothing now blue and grey rather than the lovely green he'd been wearing, and his hair, instead of being in its usual ponytail, is now in a long, loose braid draped over his shoulder, with broad silver bands placed at regular intervals to hold it together. “Whose form?” Lan Zhan asks. The god shrugs. “Made this one up,” he says. “Traveling as Mo Xuanyu wasn’t as convenient as I'd thought it would be.” This is less confusing, for sure. “How may I address you, now?” The god looks up at him with a thoughtful frown. “Ummm… Xie Yuan,” he says. Where he got Xie as a family name is obvious, but… “Yuan?” “A name of… someone I once knew,” the god replies. “He died in battle. Same one during which I ascended.” “I see.” Naming himself after both current and past friends… not a bad way to come up with an alias. More importantly, Lan Zhan now has something to call the god that isn’t the name of someone else who’s currently in the same household as the one in which they’re guests.

An important scene, and the introduction of an alias Wei Wuxian uses for the majority of the fic. Since it's not obvious from context, the Xie he uses is from Xie Lian.
